Coronation Street might have just given a massive hint at who’s behind the upcoming Platt house fire.
In tonight’s episode, Shona, David and Max discussed how they were going to pay gangster Harvey back the money they stole to buy their house, after increased threats were made against the family (including Shona recently being taken hostage).
Discussing their options at Nick’s Bistro, one of the three jested a suggestion that could solve their problems — but were they really joking?
Arriving late, David explained he’d been to see Carla to see if she had any interest in buying the house, but she unfortunately turned down the offer due to bad timing.
David said the plan was to put the property up for sale and hope for a quick buyer, but Max worried the house wouldn’t sell that quickly. Shona also pointed out selling the house would still mean months before they saw any money.
“Harvey won’t wait that long,” she said glumly, as David responded: “Well he’ll have to won’t he.”
“What other choice do we have short of burning it down and claiming on insurance?” he asked Shona, who told him not to joke.
“Who said I was joking?” he replied, adding: “We’ll just have to hope we can flog it as soon as we can.”
Is there some truth to David’s comments and could he start the fire next week? Or is it a throwaway comment that will come back to haunt him once the police start investigating?
The same scene also saw Max pause for thought, seeming intrigued after David’s suggestion. Could he be the one to carry out his step-dad’s plan?
This month, actor Paddy Bever announced his exit from the ITV soap, with his final scenes set to air in spring. Will Max’s exit be linked to the fire?
Later in the episode, viewers also saw David ask Andy, who he met in prison, for a favour. David snuck him into the house to chat privately.
“If I weren’t desperate, I wouldn’t be asking,” he told him.
Another character set to be linked to starting the house fire is Leanne Battersby, who is spotted near the scene of the crime, clutching an empty bottle of booze after drinking alone. Is she the unknown figure who posts a lit rag through the letterbox at No. 8?
Viewers won’t have too much longer to see the fire storyline unfold, with scenes set to air early next week.
