Coronation Street star Lucy Fallon has spoken out about her co-star Helen Worth’s upcoming exit,
calling her “the best kind of role model”.
Worth confirmed in June that she is leaving the soap later this year after 50 years of playing her iconic
character Gail Platt. Fallon, who plays Gail’s granddaughter Bethany Platt, has now revealed her sadness about Worth’s upcoming exit.
“Helen Worth is the best,” Fallon told The Sun‘s Fabulous. “I do feel sad. When I first joined the show at 19, she was the one who told me to always be nice to everybody, from the make-up girls to the cleaners, because you never know who says what to other people.

“And, obviously, I am nice anyway! But she always gave me good advice. And I think for somebody who has been in a show for 50 years and is super-famous – everybody knows who Gail Platt is – she is so humble and just a very nice, calm person.
“She was the best kind of role model, as she was super-grounded.”
Fallon added that Worth’s departure will mark “a massive shift in terms of her being the matriarch of the Platt family”, adding, “I don’t know what it’s going to be like without her. Tina (O’Brien, who plays Sarah) will have to step up!”
Although details of Gail’s exit are being kept under wraps for now, Corrie‘s executive producer Iain MacLeod has confirmed that she will be getting a happy ending.

“Gail won’t die. It didn’t feel like killing her off would be right,” he said. “Gail has had a hard life. She had a difficult childhood and disastrous marriages. So, we thought what viewers really want is a happy ending for her, so that what we’re doing.”
It has been reported that Gail could potentially be heading off into the sunset with her former husband Martin Platt, with Sean Wilson rumoured to be returning to the soap as part of Gail’s exit storyline.
Meanwhile, Fallon also spoke about what could be in store for Bethany in the future, revealing that she would “love her to get married”.
However, she joked that “soap weddings are always dramatic, so something awful would probably still happen – like someone would die at the wedding”.

Fallon also spoke about how Bethany will react when she discovers that missing Lauren Bolton is alive after all.
Lauren – who had been presumed dead – is set to return to Weatherfield once again this week to speak to Roy Cropper.
“Bethany’s been desperate to pin Lauren’s disappearance on Nathan [Curtis],” she said. “She wants him to go back to prison, so she wants it to be him.
“But obviously, he hasn’t killed Lauren. She is actually alive. It’s going to really throw Bethany when she finds out. It will all be very triggering for her.”
