Coronation Street’s Nick Tilsley came up with a plan to expose Leanne Battersby’s revenge plan in Friday’s (December 27) episode.
Leanne and Toyah Habeeb had a heated conversation while being held in a cell following their fight, with Toyah dropping the bombshell that she was in love with Nick. “What if I still love him? Where does that leave us?” Leanne asked her sister.
Meanwhile, Nick checked the security camera footage at the Bistro and grew suspicious after he spotted her using two different phones behind the bar.
Back at the police station, Leanne said sorry to Toyah for not supporting her when she was ill. Toyah said that she understood and noted that it was because of Rowan’s influence on Leanne when she was in the cult. Moments later, Leanne was arrested on suspicion of fraud, while Toyah was released without charge.
Toyah then visited Nick at the Bistro, and he admitted he was the one who’d gone to the police after discovering she’d been using a burner phone to try and set him and Toyah up. “I had to tell the police, otherwise we’d still be under suspicion,” he tried to explain, but Toyah didn’t seem quite so convinced.
In a police interview, Leanne claimed she’s never seen her burner phone that was found in her pocket. She demanded a solicitor and declined to comment on the incriminating CCTV footage.
Leanne was released pending further investigation and confronted Nick, who claims he had “no choice” but to go to the police with the evidence. Nick’s son Sam arrived and told the pair they’d behaved “worse than kids” and accused Leanne of being “cruel”. Although Leanne apologised, Sam handed her back her laptop and asked her to leave.
Later, Steve McDonald found Leanne looking sad in the pub and asked her what’s wrong. Leanne told Steve she’d messed up and had “no job, no friends, nobody”. Steve suggested she could stay at his house if she didn’t want to be on her own and Leanne accepted.
Nick and Toyah then discussed the day’s emotional events and Toyah expressed sadness about how things got “out of hand”. She suggested that maybe they could have solved things without going to the police – but Nick disagreed.
With Leanne now under investigation for fraud, will things ever be the same between the sisters?
