Coronation Street legend Helen Worth has sent a heartfelt farewell message to fans following her final episode in the show.
Helen’s iconic character Gail bowed out on a high in the ITV soap’s Christmas Day special, which saw her leave Weatherfield to start a new life in France with Jesse Chadwick.
Gail had recently struggled to deal with fierce disapproval from her family, who weren’t convinced that Jesse was the right man for her.
The Platt family matriarch had her own last-minute doubts after discovering that Jesse had been keeping secrets from her – and her dead husband Richard Hillman even had his say in a rare Corrie dream sequence.
Fighting back against everyone’s unwanted opinions, Gail put her own happiness first by marrying Jesse in an emotional ceremony. The couple then headed off from the cobbles to start their new chapter.
Coronation Street has now released a special video message from Helen, recorded in the Platt family living room before she finished work on the soap.
Addressing Corrie‘s fanbase, Helen said: “Hello, all of you. It’s wonderful to have this opportunity to say, ‘ta ta!’
“It’s been a fabulous 50 years, and I just wanted to thank all of you, some of you who may have been watching for 50 years. Is there anybody? And those of you who’ve been watching for a few years. Thank you.
