Coronation Street star Colson Smith has announced he is departing the soap after 14 years in the role of Craig Tinker, sharing that he had loved “every second.”
The actor debuted as the character back in 2011, with his journey seeing him go from school to police officer as he keeps the streets of Weatherfield safe.
The journey is over, however, after Smith revealed that the character would be written out of the soap later this year, with the actor sharing via Instagram that he had been informed of the developments last year.
“Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the Cobbles is to come to [an] end in 2025,” wrote Smith, with the post including a photo of Craig in uniform. “I’ve LOVED every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the GREATEST street in the world.
“I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I’ve learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy.
“For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!” he concluded, with the post being met by several responses from co-stars in the comment section.

“We love you Cols,” wrote Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah Battersby on the soap, whilst Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny Connor, commented: “Grandma loves ya and can’t wait to watch you fly! x”
Smith’s exit is the latest notable departure from the ITV soap, with Sue Cleaver – who has played Eileen Grimshaw since 2000 – announcing her decision to leave earlier this week. This follows the departure of Helen Worth, who made her final appearance as Gail Platt over the festive period.
