Coronation Street‘s Chesney and Gemma are set to clash in upcoming scenes
as Les Battersby’s death storyline continues.
Les died off-screen recently while he was at work, and the abattoir that
employed him has offered his family members compensation in exchange for
them signing an NDA. Gemma’s mum Bernie suggested investigating his death further, as it sounded to her like a cover-up job.
In scenes set to air this Monday (December 16), Leanne and Toyah tell Chesney that the compensation money has been increased to £60,000 – but they would still need to sign the NDA in order to get the payout.
Gemma returns from Portsmouth and realises that Chesney has kept quiet about the situation. She urges him to take the money, as it could really help them out financially.
What will Chesney decide to do?
When Les’ death was announced, actor Bruce Jones stated that the soap had actually emailed him ahead of time to say that that character was getting killed off.
“I got an email from the casting office saying, ‘Dear Mr Jones, I am sorry to inform you Les Battersby will die in the next few months’,” he said. “I read the email and thought, ‘Why send me an email like that? Why call me Mr. Jones? Why not call me Bruce?’
“That annoyed me a little bit, but then I felt relieved. Maybe it’s time for me to go now. But at least I’ve had an apology from the press office for [telling me by email], which I’m grateful for.”
