Coronation Street has aired a major decision for Billy Mayhew, following husband Paul Foreman’s recent death.

Grief-stricken Billy has been struggling to continue with his life after realising he had missed Paul’s heartbreaking final

moments. Viewers have seen Billy behaving out of character, even getting drunk and trying to kiss his ex-boyfriend Todd.

In tonight’s (November 1) episode, Billy tried to regain some normalcy. He met up with the bishop and assured him that he was ready to return to his job as archdeacon.

“I’m itching to get back to work,” he told the bishop. “It’s time to resume normal service.”

The bishop queried Billy’s decision, suggesting he take some more time to process his loss, but Billy insisted he was okay. “I feel I need to get back to doing what I do best, helping people. I can’t do that sat around here, feeling sorry for myself.”

The pair agreed that Billy could resume his duties however, when Billy looked over his paperwork, he made a shocking decision. “I’m not sure that normal service can be resumed,” he told the bishop on the phone.

Later, Billy shared the news with Summer, revealing that he had quit his job as archdeacon and would be working as a vicar again. He explained that there was too much paperwork in the role, and that he wanted to help people at a “grassroots level”.

Billy also shared that he would be setting up a free grief counselling club in Roy’s Rolls to help people in the community. Despite his positive outlook, Summer was worried that Billy was acting irrationally.

Elsewhere, Bernie was sent a video confirming Paul’s ashes had been sent into space, as per her plans. She decided to do a screening of the launch at the Rovers to celebrate Paul’s life.

Billy was angry when he found out about the event, calling it “cheap entertainment”. However, after a heartfelt chat with his mother-in-law, he understood her reasons for the screening and agreed to attend.
