SHOCKING NEWS!! Coronation Street was forced to scrap stunt that would kill several – as it was too expensive

A soaps writer has revealed why a pretty life-changing Coronation Street storyline never went ahead.

Daran Little is a BAFTA-winning and Emmy Award-nominated television writer.

He has written countless episodes of Coronation Street and EastEnders over the years and occasionally, he treats fans to anecdotes from certain scenes or characters of years gone by, particularly from his time on Coronation Street.

This time on X, he was responding to a fan that was discussing the visual representation of a tram crash that was set to happen in 2005.

The writer revealed the ITV soap was planning on airing a plot that saw the street get flooded.

He said: ‘You wanna blow your mind further? at one stage we planned to flood the street – like a massive flood that killed people and had everyone sat on their roofs but it was way too expensive.’

‘Oh wow, this should’ve happened!’, one fan said in response and to be honest, we couldn’t agree more!

The closest we’ve come to this in recent years was that of the sinkhole collapse in 2021, which saw people fall into the Victorian sewers under the cobbles during a massive storm.Metro.co.uk

The writer revealed it was far too expensive to flood the cobbles

Earlier this year, following the news Helen Worth will leave her role as Gail Platt in Coronation Street, Daran returned to X to share a wonderful story about the legendary actress.

Sharing a picture of himself alongside Helen, Daran wrote: ‘Want to know how wonderful Helen Worth is? She was the first person I came out to, sitting in tears in her dressing room. She held me tight and said “your adventures are just beginning”. Wishing her all my love on her next adventure.’

‘This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding’, Helen said, discussing her departure.

‘I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew.

‘The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.’
