Coronation Street is set to rewind the clock for a special Kit Green flashback scene.
Actor Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Kit’s biological mum Bernie Winter in the soap, has been spotted on set filming for scenes that are set to transport viewers back to 2008.
The flashback will explore the backstory of Kit and Bernie’s relationship, which viewers will know involved Bernie giving her son Kit up shortly after birth.
It seems the throwback scene will recall one occasion Bernie tried to make contact with her son while he was growing up and living with his foster parents.
One photo shows Hazlegrove has donned a long blonde wig to play a younger version of Bernie in the flashback. She appears to be running away from a young Kit and his foster mum.
Meanwhile, the second image shows the same young Kit actor running after a taxi which Bernie is likely to be travelling in.
Coronation Street fans will know how much Kit was affected by Bernie giving him up as a baby, but this marks the first time viewers will get to see some of the story for themselves.
Bernie gave Kit up for adoption in 1993, unable to cope with raising her newborn son alongside her then two-year-old twins Paul and Gemma.
Two years later she learned that her son, who she named Zodiac, had been adopted by the Green family and renamed Kit, as he is known today.
Bernie and Kit both separately struggled with the situation over the following three decades, and when reunited in 2024, Kit made it clear that he wouldn’t acknowledge Bernie as his mother.
It’s only been since Paul’s death that the two have established a more amicable relationship, with Paul’s dying wish that the two be reconciled.
Teasing his character ahead of his Coronation Street debut last May, Kit Green actor Jacob Roberts said: “He’s been really hurt throughout his life and although he has a good heart, he has some deep-rooted resentment with his biological mum, which will be really interesting to play out.”
