Coronation Street stars Colson Smith and Jack P Shepherd have revealed who has taken over Helen Worth’s dressing room following her departure.
The actor recently said goodbye to the cobbles after 50 years as Gail Rodwell, exiting in scenes that aired on Christmas Day.
Speaking on a recent episode of their podcast On The Sofa, the Craig Tinker and David Platt actors opened up about some of the dressing room dynamics, revealing that getting one’s own is a “big, big deal” that requires a “minimum” of 20 years service.
They then shared that following Helen’s goodbye, Sam Aston has now gotten her room – having now filled the quota after playing Chesney Brown for over 21 years.
“He’s in prime location,” Colson quipped, before Jack admitted that they initially offered it to him.
“Does [Sam] know?” Colson asked, Jack replying: “Yeah he does.”
Colson then noted that they offered Jack a spot on the “Golden Corridor”, the David actor explaining: “I got a phonecall, and they went, ‘It’s a dressing room chat’. And they said, ‘Would you want to go into Helen’s?’
“The reason why they’re offering me that is because there’s a bit of this walk of fame section,” he elaborated. “Like a legend’s section where you’ve got like Bill Roache, Barbara [Knox], Helen, Dave Neilson, Sally Dynevor, Sue Nicholls, [Mike Le Vell].
“There’s those types of people who have been in the show for 40 years. They said, ‘Do you want to go there?'” Jack added, before revealing his reason: “And I went, ‘No, because I’ve just decorated my room!'”
