Several Coronation Street stars have responded to reports of a “cast revolt” against the soap.
Taking to Instagram yesterday, Kirk Sutherland actor Andy Whyment shut down the claims and warned his followers not to “believe everything you read”.
“There is a story about @coronationstreet in the press nearly every day at the moment,” he wrote. “I’d just like to say that the show is not on its knees and there is most certainly not a cast revolt as one article has said.”
The actor continued: “Please don’t believe everything you read, I for at least one cast member am extremely happy and feel very grateful to still be working on Coronation Street.”
Whyment’s co-stars were quick to share their support in the post’s comments section, including Vicky Myers (DS Lisa Swain), who wrote: “Absolutely!! Well said Andy.”
Jane Danson, who plays Leanne Battersby, commented: “Amen to that. Also, we are a cast and crew who care and respect each other deeply – through good times and bad. Through life and work. We are family xx.”
“Well said our Andy! It’s an honour and a privilege to work with the best!” added Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster), while Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw) wrote: “Corrie will always be my family!”
Devaney is set to exit the ITV soap in the long term, while Cleaver announced last week that she will also be leaving the show after 25 years.
Bernie Winter actor Jane Hazelgrove also shared her support, commenting: “Yes! @andywhy36! Yes! Well bloody said! Brilliant bunch of kind clever creatives both in front of the camera and behind! Away with the negativity!”
“My brother 👊🏼 x”, added Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs.
