Coronation Street’s Paddy Bever has opened up about his on-screen grandmother Helen Worth’s ‘radical

kindness’ as he discusses her departure from the cobbles for the first time. The actor, who portrays

troubled teen Max Turner in the ITV soap, has been a fixture in Gail Platt’s household since his mother

Kylie’s tragic demise in 2016.

Living with David, Gail, Shona, and little sister Lily at No. 8, Max has seen his fair share of drama. But now, the Platt family is set to face another shake-up as matriarch Gail bids farewell to Weatherfield after an iconic run.

Helen Worth, who has become synonymous with her character Gail, is set to exit the show before the close of 2024, marking an end to an era that began when she first graced our screens back in 1974. As she gears up to celebrate a remarkable 50 years on the Street this June, Helen has decided it’s time to say goodbye.

In a heartfelt statement confirming her departure, Helen expressed: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.

She continued: “I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew. The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”

Paddy, who is originally from Stockport, expressed his sentiments at the RadioTimes.com Soap Awards held at Manchester’s iconic Midland Hotel on Saturday July 13.

He shared: “I think Helen is the kindest soul. I think, genuinely, she has a radical kindness about her and she’s one of the loveliest people I have ever met and always makes me feel really calm and safe. [I’m] gutted to be losing Helen but at the same time, I’m so pleased for her that she’s accomplished so much. So yeah, it’s bittersweet.”

In other soap news, Gail Platt is also saying goodbye to Coronation Street, but fans can rest assured, as bosses have hinted at a “happy ending” for this beloved character. However, her departure will spark a chain of “explosive drama” for the remaining Platt family.

ITV’s executive producer for continuing drama, Iain MacLeod disclosed to Daily Star’s Hot TV column, saying: “Gail’s happy ending will be part of loads of other drama for the rest of the Platt family. It will be a catalyst for some explosive drama with betrayals and twists. Her departure will leave something in its wake.
