Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan has explained why she hasn’t returned as Rosie Webster, sharing that she hasn’t

been asked by producers.

The actor debuted on the ITV soap in 2000, first leaving the show in 2012 before returning for an 18-month stint in 2017.

Since departing for a second time in 2018, Flanagan has made appearances on I’m a Celebrity… South Africa and Celebs

Go Dating, and revealed to the Daily Star that she would gladly return to Corrie if she was asked.

“I’d absolutely love to go back. I spoke to Sally [Dynevor] the other day and said, ‘Oh, you know, I’ve got to come back.’ But they just haven’t asked me,” said Flanagan.

“You have to go back if they ask you. It’s up to the producer, it’s not really up to you. You have to be asked, you can’t just turn up. It would be great. But you’d want a good story as well.”

Despite the prospect of a return not currently looking likely, Flanagan did speak about her experience on the soap, praising the various writers for giving Rosie exciting storylines.

“It’s hilarious when I look back because I was so lucky from being a child until I left when I was 21, I had big storylines,” she said. “I was always written for and always had brilliant storylines.

“I went back when I was 27 and I went back for 18 months, and then I left when I was pregnant with Delilah. I loved being back. I really enjoyed it, but I was having more comedy lines rather than the big storylines.”

Flanagan, who has appeared in over 1,000 episodes of Corrie, also detailed her similarity with the character, explaining: “We kind of were the same person – apart from [that] I think I’m actually a nice person. We’re both a bit wild, she’s a bit foul, which I can be to be fair.”
