Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has clarified her character’s future on the soap after she scaled down her appearances.

While Dynevor’s Sally Metcalfe is now at the centre of a storyline in which she and husband Tim are fostering Lou and Mick Michaelis’ children, her appearance count has gone down since 2023.

Speaking with Woman’s Weekly magazine, the soap star has reassured fans she isn’t going anywhere and she intends being on Corrie until she’s in her 80s.

“I want to keep working, it’s good for my brain,” she said. “So, if they still want me, maybe I’ll be in the show in my 70s and 80s. I’ll just keep going.”

Dynevor first hit the cobbles as Sally Seddon when she was 22 and has now been on the show for four decades.

“It’s such a great job and I feel very grateful I’ve still got it after 40 years,” she said.

“I’m not in it as much as I used to be but I drove in the other day and, as the barrier went up, I just had this huge smile because it felt like I was home. I knew I was going to have a fun day.”

Weighing in on her new storyline, with Sally taking care of Lou’s daughters Joanie and Shanice, Dynevor said it’s a “lovely” subplot.

“Her own girls have grown up and gone, and this is a new chapter in her life. Although it’s hard, she’s really enjoying it,” she said.

“At the beginning, Sally wasn’t at all interested in fostering, it was more of a Tim project but now she’s realising what the girls need and what she can give.

“It’s a lovely story. It’s nice to show something good.”
