Coronation Street has signed up former Hollyoaks star Ryan Mulvey just weeks after his departure from the Channel 4 soap.
The actor played JJ Osborne on the soap for a year before his final appearance last month (January 15), which saw the character sentenced to two years in a Young Offenders institution following the abuse of his sister, Frankie.
Just under a month from his last appearance as JJ, it seems Mulvey now has a new role on the horizon, with The Sun reporting that the actor is set to join ITV soap Coronation Street for a “brand new” storyline across the spring season.
Whilst Mulvey’s role on Corrie is a secret for now, the actor previously spoke about his “challenging” role as JJ, sharing: “Even though he is a villain, JJ does not see himself as that, so playing the delusion and denial in JJ has been super interesting.
“The part has pushed and challenged me hugely as an actor but I’m super proud of the end product and humbled by the feedback we’ve received for the storyline… I’m so proud to take part in the storyline and how important it is to be represented in the media.”

News of Mulvey’s casting comes amidst a tumultuous time on Corrie, with Paddy Bever, Colson Smith, Shelley King, Charlotte Jordan and Sue Cleaver all set to depart the soap in the coming months.
“After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max and Coronation Street to explore new opportunities,” said Bever, who has played Max Turner since 2021, of his impending exit.
“I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way. I’m eternally grateful for the chance to bring Max’s story to life and it’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show… I will treasure these memories.”
