Coronation Street has shared a first look at scenes from Evelyn Plummer’s upcoming exit storyline, as well as some new details.
Dame Maureen Lipman, who has played Evelyn since 2018, recently confirmed that she is stepping back from the ITV soap as a full-time cast member.
While she isn’t leaving altogether, Lipman is taking a break and then scaling back her commitments to spend more time with her fiancée David Turner.
It’s now been confirmed that Evelyn’s exit storyline will kick off in scenes airing on January 8 and January 9, when she tells Roy that she’s due at the university for an induction after deciding to pursue her new passion by studying law.
Later on, Tyrone asks Evelyn if she’ll look after the girls. Although Evelyn agrees, it’s clear she feels put out.
Later in the week, Yasmeen feels a pang of envy when Evelyn tells her she’s moving into student halls to start her Law degree.
Meanwhile, Roy calls in at No. 9 and awkwardly admits to Evelyn that he’ll miss her while she’s away.
Fiz and Tyrone later arrive at the Rovers to find Evelyn enjoying a farewell drink with Roy, Brian and Yasmeen. Tyrone tells her that the car is all packed and it’s time to go.
Announcing her departure from the soap earlier this month, Lipman said: “I’ll be absent for a while and then coming back.
“I’m not going to die, but then I’ll be in and out of it because I want to have a bit of a life. David and I are thinking of having a bit of a gap year.”
