Coronation Street has confirmed Dee-Dee Bailey’s plans for her baby.
The show’s latest episode saw Dee-Dee confide in her father Ed and brother Michael as she vowed to put her child up for adoption after the birth.
Dee-Dee discovered that she’s pregnant with Joel Deering’s baby last month.
Recent episodes have seen Dee-Dee consider having a termination as she was unsure about raising the child of her villainous fiancé. Joel was killed in September and many of the Weatherfield residents are still dealing with the
consequences of his crimes.
Dee-Dee’s plans started to change when she learned that Lauren Bolton needs a bone marrow donor for her young son Frankie, who has been diagnosed with aplastic anaemia.
As Dee-Dee’s baby is Frankie’s half-sibling, she knows there’s a chance that the child could be a suitable match.
In Friday’s episode, Dee-Dee visited the abortion clinic but changed her mind about going ahead with the termination.
She later headed to see Lauren, assuring her: “I didn’t have the abortion. I couldn’t do it. When I got into the room, I just couldn’t lie down. It’s like my body wouldn’t physically let me.
“Perhaps it’s my faith – this desperate hope that some good, any good, can come from all of this. And then there’s Frankie. Maybe we can help him, maybe we can’t, but I want to at least try.”
Lauren was moved to tears by the news, pulling in Dee-Dee for a hug before they made plans to discuss the situation with the transplant coordinators.
Later, back home at the flat, Dee-Dee told Ed and Michael about her longer-term plans.
She explained: “I’m not keeping the baby. I’m going to put it up for adoption. I have thought it through properly – it’s all I’ve thought about. I have decided and I know this is the right decision. It’s done.”
Ed and Michael were unsure that Dee-Dee was making the right choice, but will she stand by her decision?
