Coronation Street has confirmed that Audrey Roberts is ploughing ahead with a big change in her life after 35 years.
Audrey is undeterred in her decision to leave her home on upmarket Grasmere Drive, where she’s lived since 1990.
The fan favourite first shared her plans in March this year, vowing to move into the annexe at the Platt house on Coronation Street.
Audrey’s grandson David was appalled by the idea and there’s been little mention of it since then.

However, with the Platts now back home after the repairs carried out following February’s fire, there’s an important Audrey update in tonight’s episode…
At the salon, Audrey informs Shona Platt that she’ll be skipping the family barbecue that she and David have organised to celebrate moving back home.
Audrey explains: “I have had a change of plan. I don’t really like barbecues anyway and I don’t like the smoke smell that gets in your hair.
“[I’m going to] farewell drinks with my neighbours from Grasmere Drive. So it will be a bit more civilised….”

Later, it’s revealed that a new door has been installed in the hallway of the Platt house, allowing Audrey to discreetly come and go into the annexe as she pleases.
David notes: “Gran wanted a front door. I don’t know why, but she said it was a deal-breaker.”
Nick replies: “A bit of discretion, David. She might have a gentleman caller.”
Will Audrey be happy living on the Street, amid the inevitable family dramas that will unfold? Or will she miss her safe haven on Grasmere Drive? Only time will tell…

One particularly memorable moment aired in 2006, when Fred Elliott sadly died while visiting Audrey on the morning of his wedding to Bev Unwin.
Coronation Street continues tonight at 8pm on ITV1. The latest episode is also streaming early now on ITVX.
