Coronation Street aired hope for David and Shona Platt as they attempted to pick up the pieces of their marriage.
The cracks began to appear after Shona discovered that David had withheld information regarding her incarcerated son, Clayton Hibbs, who had been attempting to contact her whilst behind bars.
An enraged and distraught Shona subsequently embarked on a one-night stand in a hotel room with detective Kit Green, with David struggling to forgive her following the discovery of her infidelity.
Tuesday’s (December 31) New Year’s Eve episode began with a solemn David being confronted by Kit at the café, with the detective teasing him about the previous day’s events, which saw David confront Kit over the affair.
David subsequently snapped at Max as he opened the barbershop, though his mood worsened as Shona arrived to inform the pair and Audrey about her plans for the evening. David wasn’t in a talkative mood, with Audrey chastising him for his attitude.
The family later congregated around the table for a game of Jenga, with David and Shona having a frank conversation in the kitchen as they sought to mend their relationship. David said that the thoughts had “eaten him up”, with Shona stating that she wouldn’t “give up” on their marriage.

Following the conclusion of the festivities, David rushed to Shona’s side as he heard a loud bang outside, though she eased his worries as she showed him that it was merely a nearby firework being let off.
David subsequently remarked that he had been “kidding himself” by thinking he could cope without Shona by his side, adding that he would be “lost” without her despite feeling a “pain” in his stomach every time he looked at Kit.
Acknowledging the pain she had caused, Shona vowed that she would never leave David so long as he wanted her, with the pair hugging it out as they took a new step in their relationship recovery.
