The grim drama told the story of a nuclear strike on Britain through the eyes of two families, tracing the events leading up to the war and the decade of devastation that follows.
Young lovers Ruth (Karen Meagher) and Jimmy (Reece Dinsdale) decide to get married after Ruth unexpectedly gets pregnant.
But their quiet lives in Sheffield, England, are threatened when the Soviet Union and United States go to war.
After a nuclear attack destroys a NATO base 20 miles from Sheffield, the town falls into chaos.
Ruth and Jimmy are separated as the fallout spreads.
Ruth must struggle to survive alone in the post-apocalyptic landscape.
Eagle-eyed Threads viewers spotted a Corrie legend in the opening scene.
A young Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie Winter, was seen in a supermarket reading a magazine with headphones.
Coronation Street fans rage at ‘dogs dinner’ of an episode and fear ITV soap has ‘gone down the pan’
She wore a red leather jacket and her blonde fringe was swept to the side.
The supermarket worker told her to take her headphones off and not forget house number 24 before she went on her paper round.
Now, 28 years later, Jane has a different look and voice on Coronation Street.
Bernie is the mother of twins Gemma Winter-Brown (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Paul Foreman (Peter Ash), assistant at Roy’s Rolls and Prima Doner and partner of Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin).
They were then left stunned when they were told and said: “OMG, lol. I can totally see it now.”
Jane’s character Bernie is currently grieving for her son Paul who died of Motor Neuron Disease (MND).
After joining the ITV soap back in 2019, Bernie caused all sorts of trouble, including being sentenced to three months in prison for handling stolen goods.
In real life, Jane is married to fellow actress Isobel Middleton, known for her roles in Emmerdale and Harry Potter.
Despite tying the knot in 2015, the couple prefers to keep their relationship private.
In 2019, Jane opened up about her relationship with Isobel during an appearance on Lorraine.
She shared: “She’s sensational, a really beautiful woman. I am very obsessed.”
Jane humorously suggested that their relationship, which has spanned over 28 years, has endured because they have never shared screen time together.
Despite not having worked together in film, both have had roles in soap operas, with Isobel portraying three different characters in Emmerdale throughout the years.
