Fans of the ITV soap saw Carla be rushed to hospital in an ambulance after experiencing hallucinations and collapsing in her flat.
She was told by doctors that she had contracted sepsis from her head injury, when she was attacked in the factory, and would need further tests.
Carla then lied to her girlfriend Lisa (Vicky Myers) saying he was flying to Ireland to see Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott).
Lisa lost her ex-wife Becky years ago and Carla didn’t want to put her through anymore pain.
But when Ryan returned to Weatherfield, he caught Roy (David Neilson) packing a bag of Carla’s things in her flat.
Lisa and Ryan quizzed Roy on Carla’s whereabouts, forcing him to reveal the truth.
In hospital, Roy and Ryan was by Carla’s side when she received even more devastating news.
The doctor informed her that the sepsis has caused more damage to her one kidney than they thought.
Carla was left reeling to learn she might need another kidney transplant and dialysis.
She asked: “What is the life expectancy, you know, for a woman like me, my age, one wonky kidney, dialysis? Like, ten years, max?”

The doctor replied: “You’ve outlined the worst-case scenario. Hopefully it won’t come to that.”
But Carla wasn’t feeling confident or positive.
When Ryan updated Lisa on Carla’s news, Lisa rushed straight over to comfort her.
Carla told Lisa to do the “sensible thing” and “walk away” as it isn’t what she “signed up for.”
