Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) is putting on a front in Emmerdale but inside, the guilt over cheating on Moira (Natalie J Robb) is eating him up.
When Moira went under the knife to have brain surgery, Cain ended up sleeping with Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly), his brother’s wife. It was a spur of the moment thing and only happened because Cain and Ruby were both struggling with their own problems.
In the aftermath, Cain and Ruby have both agreed to keep their betrayal a secret, convinced hiding the truth would be better for everyone involved. Unfortunately though, the arrival of Ruby’s dad Anthony (Nicholas Day) has seen the risk of their secret being exposed increase.
In upcoming episodes of the ITV soap, Moira prepares herself for radiotherapy following her op.
Cain is keen to show his support but as he watches his wife go through the treatment, it makes his guilt over Ruby bubble away.
Moira feels touched by the support of all of her family but just how long can Cain keep this secret hidden?
Discussing Ruby and Cain’s sex betrayal, star Beth Cordingly recently told us: ‘It’s one of those ticking time bombs, isn’t it? I think it’s good when stuff doesn’t come out too quickly, because then it’s just sitting there waiting and you know as soon as something’s going okay, it could just come out. Then you’ve got all this potential destruction. I think it’s good that it hasn’t come out yet but I’m sure it will.’
She added: ‘It’s probably the worst person from Caleb’s point of view, because family means so much to him, and it’s taken him so long to feel a part of the Dingles. Cain means so much to Caleb. It’s quite hard for Ruby to break his heart, but this would be the way to do it, not that that was her intention.
‘She was trying to hurt herself. She and Moira were becoming friends too, and had this really kind of wonderful relationship of spikiness and difficultness and then opening up to each other.
‘So there’s that to damage too. I hope it’s really clear that there isn’t any kind of romance going on between Cain and Ruby at all. They both regretted it from the second it was over.’
