The 57-year-old singer shared that she was offered the role of Stella Price, which ended up being played
by EastEnders icon Michelle Collins.
‘I was offered once the part to play the landlady of the Rovers Return. I am the biggest Corrie fan,’ she said.
‘I always wanted to go in the Rovers and just have a little game of darts. And they offered me a part, and it was for two years. It would have tied me down.
‘I was not allowed to do anything else. So, unfortunately, it kind of jammed,’ she added to The Mirror.
In October 1989, Lisa and her husband Ian Devaney created Lisa’s most successful song to date. Speaking about how the trio created the hit, she said: ‘I came into the studio, and Ian was messing around at the piano.
‘He had a melody, and I just started singing: “Been around the world and I, I, I…” Everyone laughed but Ian said, “Wait, it’s really good, that”.’
Lisa added to The Guardian: ‘It just came into my head – it was nonsense, but had a really good feel to it. “I, I, I” became the main hook. We’d no idea how massive it would become.’
‘The song came together really quickly. Once Lisa had all the lyrics down and I’d done a basic track with Andy, the whole vocal was two takes,’ recalled Ian.
The song was nominated for two Grammy Awards, won an Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically, and reached number one on the UK’s singles chart.
Although Lisa feels she’s had one of the best jobs in the world, she previously told Metro.co.uk that it comes with its disadvantages too.
‘A lot of it was exhilarating but every job has a pain-in-the-arse element,’ she shared.
‘It’s probably one of the best jobs in the world but I found not having time to myself and constantly being looked at difficult. It gets to you after a while but it’s just part of the job.’
