1. Emotions run high
Following the dramatic events of the 40th anniversary week, Walford locals are left to come to terms with their new reality. It’s no easy feat though, as the close-knit community struggle to deal with the magnitude of the chaos that unfolded around them.
The next day, residents set out to support each other as they try to adjust to their difficult situation – but who is feeling the most pain?
2. Grant is grilled
Despite their childhood friendship, Nigel and Grant feel tension build up between them. Before long, the Mitchell family turn up at No. 55 and confront Phil’s younger brother about his recent behaviour. Predictably, Grant isn’t happy to be the subject of criticism and struggles to keep his irritation under control.
Later, he accepts some well-meaning advice and eventually comes to a decision that he hopes will put things back on track.
3. Yolande steps up
After Yolande spots Nigel in the midst of a testy exchange, the launderette owner encourages her friend to open up to Grant about his dementia diagnosis. This doesn’t go down well though, as Nigel refuses to entertain the idea of confessing the truth about his deteriorating health.
However, his control over the situation is soon ripped out of his hands when Grant overhears the conversation. As Grant asks his old pal for truth, will Nigel muster up the strength to come clean?
4. Denise goes public
Following the result of the public vote, Denise shares a chat with her new man about their relationship. Afterwards, the loved-up pair agree to reveal to their respective families that they’re going to give their romance a shot.
Later in the week, Denise sticks to the plan and introduces her nearest and dearest to the lucky chap. Will the big news be met with delight or despair?
5. The Mitchells clash
At Kathy’s café, Nigel and Grant share breakfast with members of the Mitchell family – although it quickly becomes clear that relations haven’t fully returned to normal.
Tensions soon heat up and home truths end up being thrown in Grant’s direction. He decides to leave the café but later receives some important words of wisdom from an unlikely figure.
6. A truth is revealed
There’s more upheaval on the cards for Grant, when he finally finds out the truth about Nigel’s condition. Rather than pulling together, the two men end up in a spat which provokes the Mitchell hard man to walk away from No. 55.
On his own, Grant feels emotional as he tries to come to terms with the terrible piece of information that he has just heard. Desperation soon kicks in, which leads him to visit the only person that he thinks can help him out – but who could it be?
Meanwhile, one needy family feel grateful when a compassionate local resident offers them a warm welcome. Plus, one resident trusts a friend with a huge secret, only to find out that they’ve been overheard by someone.
7. Nigel receives an offer
Having made an unfortunate assumption, Grant decides that he wants to leave Albert Square, though he doesn’t depart without one last trip down memory lane. During a mysterious exchange, he offers his support to a familiar figure before the pair put their difficult history to bed once and for all.
Later, Grant takes Nigel aside and asks him to join him in Portugal permanently, so that he can care for him throughout his dementia journey.
Elsewhere, Walford residents come together at Harry’s Barn for a sombre occasion – but the event soon stirs up plenty more drama for the grief-stricken group…
