EastEnders has seen a flurry of new and familiar faces in recent months, with a host of stars making their entrance into Walford while others have bid farewell to Albert Square for good.
One of the soap’s major comebacks happened following the heartbreaking death of Martin Fowler (James Bye), as Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) returned to Walford after a long absence.
She arrived alongside her partner Ross (Alex Walkinshaw) and son Joel (Max Murray). The family quickly decided to make London their permanent residence and didn’t waste any time getting acquainted with the locals of Walford.
The role of Joel in EastEnders is young Max’s first regular TV gig, but he appears to be no newcomer to the entertainment industry.
Max is the offspring of actress and singer Gina Murray. Gina’s television appearances include Doctor Who and Witless, and she’s graced the stage in productions such as Chicago, Mamma Mia!, and Hairspray.
She’s also contributed her voice to various video games over the years. Gina is the mother of sons Max and Joe, and her own parents are also well-known figures, reports Belfast Live.
Gina’s dad is Mitch Murray, a songwriter, record producer, and author. He’s had an incredibly successful career, earning him two Ivor Novello Awards.
Gina’s mum is Grazina Frame, who was married to Mitch until 1980. Grazina is an actress, singer and voice double, having appeared in both television shows and theatre productions.
Grazina and Mitch are also parents to Mazz Murray, Max’s auntie. Mazz is a singer and actress renowned for her theatre roles.
Mazz, known for her roles as Patsy Cline, Dusty Springfield, and Vivian Ellis in tribute shows, has had a varied career. She’s best known for playing the Killer Queen in the West End production of We Will Rock You and has also appeared in Chicago.
In 2010, Mazz and her sister Gina formed their own music group, Woman, alongside Anna-Jane Casey and Emma Kershaw. Their debut single was aptly titled I’m a Woman.
Off stage, Mazz, whose real name is Marianne, is happily married to Oren Harush since 2009. Their wedding was made even more special with a performance by Queen musician Brian May.
