Coronation Streetâs Ryan Thomas has shared a health diagnosis, revealing that he has ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). The star also opened up about the âstressfulâ time that led him to get an assessment while chatting to brothers Adam and Scott.
The Jason Grimshaw actor explained on the At Home with the Thomas Broâs podcast that he hadnât spoken publicly about the condition before as he felt âquite embarrassedâ.
âIt felt like I had a condition and growing up, as kids, ADHD, I donât feel like, was ever a thing â or it was loosely spoke about,â he said, explaining that partner Lucy Mecklenburgh had noted that he was doing things such as losing his phone, being inattentive during conversations and misplacing items.

âThere was just loads of things that she said to me about ADHD that I thought I had,â Ryan continued. âSo I was like, âokay, what am I going to lose here by being like, you know, assessed by a doctor to see if I have it that a medication that might really like help my everyday lifeâ.
âBecause I was feeling like quite overwhelmed with having to search for my car keys all the time, Lucy having to go to school on the school run in an Uber because I canât find them.â
The star recalled that it was âhappening all the timeâ and became âstressful for the familyâ, adding: âIt was stressful for me and I thought, dâyou know what, Iâm going to bite the bullet.â
Ryan revealed he was assessed and ultimately diagnosed with ADHD, before reflecting on his current experience of being on medication.
âFriends that are on the medication have said it changes your life instantly, like the limitless pill,â he said. âAnd itâs been quite disheartening for me because Iâm on the medication every day â Iâve been on it for the last three, four weeks â and I still feel overwhelmed. I still misplace things.
âThere is a part of me that I recognise â that I can sit down and write something on a piece of paper, which is very rare that that happens with me,â he added, before confirming he has âupped the dosage nowâ.
