Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce)’s romantic life takes quite the turn in upcoming Coronation Street episodes, when he ends up kissing his (very) ex-girlfriend Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien). On the lips! In the bistro!

Todd and Sarah had a romance over 20 years ago, and Sarah became pregnant with Todd’s baby. Sadly baby Billy died after Sarah went into premature labour.  Recently a poignant scene saw Todd and Sarah talking about their little boy, and how he would now be 21 years old.

Todd was coming to terms with his sexuality at the time and the relationship didn’t last because ultimately he knew he was gay, but these days he and Sarah are good friends and confidantes. And, in upcoming episodes, both of them are embarking on new relationships.

Todd has met scaffolder Theo (James Cartwright), and there was an instant attraction between them. Unfortunately when Theo later arrived at Shuttleworths he was there to arrange a funeral – for his wife’s mother. Obviously Todd was taken aback to find out about his new love interest’s wife.

Theo protested that he’d always known he was gay but had married Danielle 19 years ago. He begged Todd to keep his secret.

In episodes airing soon, Sarah gives Todd the key to her flat as he’s exhausted from being up all night looking after Julie (Katy Cavanagh), who was in pain.

Sarah is entertaining her own new love interest, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), but they have to leave the flat when Todd lets himself in, closely followed by Theo who wants to talk to Todd about his situation.

Later, Sarah and Kit are due to go to the bistro on a date. She arrives early and is having a drink with Todd, when Theo’s wife Danielle comes in and heads over to join them.

Covering his tracks, Theo has told Danielle that Sarah is Todd’s girlfriend. When Danielle insists that they join her and her husband at their table, Todd kisses Sarah on the lips to wind Theo up.

Someone else who’s wound up by the sight is Kit, who arrives just in time to witness the event and isn’t very impressed.

Sarah tries to explain, but it isn’t the ideal start to their date – especially as she doesn’t want to blow Todd’s cover by looking too friendly with Kit…
