One aspect of her Yellowstone character that Kelly Reilly can’t stand.
Hollywood actress Kelly Reilly recently gained recognition and praise for portraying the outspoken and spirited farmer’s daughter, Beth Dutton, in the hit Western TV
series Yellowstone. Despite the character’s antics throughout the show, Beth has emerged as a beloved fan favorite among the stellar ensemble cast.
While the actress also shared appreciation for her character and harbors hopeful aspirations for her journey in the upcoming final season, there’s one aspect of Beth’s persona that doesn’t quite sit well with the actress: her smoking habit.
Kelly Reilly Hopes Beth Dutton Quits Smoking in the Final Season
Kelly Reilly, known for portraying the straightforward and candid Beth Dutton in Yellowstone, revealed one aspect that she dislikes most about her character, her smoking habits, which she wishes Beth quits in the final season.
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Reilly opened up about playing the character in the series and expressed her hopes for the character’s evolution, particularly regarding her smoking habit. The actress shared that while Beth is a chain smoker, it is not something she enjoys.
Expressing her personal discomfort with filming the on-screen smoking scenes, she said, “I don’t smoke, so all of those cigarettes are herbal cigarettes.” However, despite her discomfort, the showrunner Taylor Sheridan is not ready to let that go.
“I hate them so much and he [Taylor Sheridan] has it in the script when she’s smoking and when she takes a drag, it’s all written,” she said. Reilly shared that she pitched plots for Beth to quit smoking, but that did not seem the appropriate arc for the character.
“I’m trying to pitch him an idea of that she gets addicted to Nicotine,” the True Detective actress said before adding, “But I don’t know if that’s entertaining… I don’t know if that’s what we want to see from her.”
The actress still remained optimistic about her character’s future, entertaining the idea of seeing Beth and Rip together in their 60s, while humorously hoping that Beth has quit the habit by then.
Kelly Reilly Hopes for Long Run of the Western Drama
Yellowstone had a successful run for the past four seasons and is set to conclude with the upcoming fifth and final season, which is expected to premiere later this year. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Kelly Reilly expressed enthusiasm for the continuation of the show.
I hope Yellowstone goes for a long time — We get to see the characters develop… every season for as long as we can — As long as our fans want it and people are still enjoying it…. we can still make a good show.
While the show is coming to an end, it will continue with the multiple spin-offs that have followed the success of the Western drama, including, 1883 and 1923, along with upcoming shows like 6666, 1944, and 2024. While her fate remains uncertain, Beth Dutton is expected to appear in the upcoming spin-off series 2024.
