EastEnders viewers were left stunned as Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) made a surprise exit on Thursday (June 19), just moments after tying the knot with Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) at the registry office.
Just last week, the couple celebrated their third wedding ceremony surrounded by their closest friends and family in the Square.
However, Alfie’s happiness quickly turned to worry when Kat’s daughter Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) returned after a 20-year absence.
The beloved character seemed to be in a bad way, struggling with financial issues and alcohol, leaving her frustrated cousin Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) to look after her.
Zoe also fabricated a story about being pursued by Spanish loansharks, leaving Stacey with no choice but to seek help from Alfie, reports Belfast Live.
But it wasn’t long before Kat discovered Alfie at Stacey’s new flat, thanks to Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) who managed to locate his dad using an app on his mobile phone.
Zoe had insisted that she didn’t want to reunite with her estranged mum and hinted that she had done something so terrible that Kat would want to disown her.
On Thursday (June 19), Stacey revealed that Zoe had fled the country and was en route to Barcelona. She had nicked Stacey’s credit card to purchase her plane ticket while Alfie devised a plan to bring her home.
Before heading to the registry office, Alfie informed Kat that he needed to go to Australia as his brother Spencer was in trouble, but in reality, he was bound for Barcelona.
EastEnders devotees are certain that Tommy will uncover Alfie’s fib by using a phone tracker, revealing his true location in Spain instead of Australia, spelling potential doom for the recently reconciled couple.
