OMG SHOCKING!!! Coronation Street’s Debbie left injured – and gets further bad news

When will Coronation Street give Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) a break? No sooner is she released from prison, suddenly she’s forced to deal with a painful accident, a tragic update about her dementia, and her no-good mooching son…

It’s tough to watch a sassy, feisty, irrepressible character like Debbie be struck by one misery after another. Not only is the classic Cobbles character struggling with advancing dementia, but she must struggle with it behind bars, thanks to her scum-bag son Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) causing the Corriedale crash which killed Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and gaslighting her into taking the blame.

But that is exactly what makes Debbie Webster Debbie Webster. Fearless and plucky in the face of adversity. And she’s certainly seen her fair share of adversity of late…

Being locked up twenty-four-seven in a strange and scary environment has caused a rapid decline in Debbie’s condition, with more frequent moments of confusion and forgetfulness. The only silver lining of this very grey cloud has been a very unlikely guardian angel, Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty) – who diehard Corrie fans remember as the ‘nightmare neighbour’ who is locked up for brutally assaulting Gary Windass (Mikey North).

Recently facing appeal, Debbie’s whole freedom hung in the balance when she got confused during the meeting and accused a guard of stealing her journal. But Lou refused to let Debbie’s appeal be jeopardised by her dementia, and made the ultimate sacrifice for her friend by starting a fight with a random prisoner just to cause a distraction. Now THAT’s friendship goals.

Lou’s sacrifice was not in vain. Debbie’s appeal was granted, and she will soon be released back onto the Cobbles where her loving husband Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) and brother Kevin Webster are waiting… and unfortunately, her not so loving offspring Carl.

Due to his poor life choices and dodgy dealings, Carl’s up to his eyeballs in debt. That’s why he’s determined to get his hands on his mum’s beloved Chariot Square Hotel. So when Debbie is released, it doesn’t take him long to go sniffing around his mum for some cash – which will not go down well with Ronnie. It’s safe to say, poor Deb has a stressful return to the Cobbles.

However, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Upcoming scenes of Coronation will see Debbie having a hard time adjusting back to life working in the hotel, which is only exacerbated when a confrontation triggers a terrible accident… and terrible news.

Debbie’s return to the Chariot gets off to a shaky start during Tracy Barlow’s (Kate Ford) and Mary’s meeting up with a bride and her mother at the Chariot Square to discuss wedding flowers.

As Debbie serves the Champagne she makes some ill-judged remarks to the bride’s mother which do not go down well…

Things only get worse the next day, when a flustered Debbie is confronted by Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) – the closest thing Billy Mayhew had to a daughter – and demands to know if Carl was driving the car the night Billy died. What will Debbie say?

While Debbie’s shaken by the encounter, Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) passes by with two very hot plates. Acting on impulse, Debbie grabs them… causing them to badly burn her hands. It’s clear poor Debbie is in decline.

But it is still gut-wrenching to get it in writing the next day, when Debbie gets her latest
