Former Coronation Street star Millie Gibson looks worlds away from her soap role in a new period drama

A fresh adaptation of The Forsyte Saga is making its way to 5 (formerly known as Channel 5) this autumn, promising viewers a lavish treat.
Inspired by John Galsworthy’s acclaimed novels, the six-episode series, entitled The Forsytes, brings back the wealthy upper-class stockbroker family, who are living in opulent splendour towards the end of the Victorian age.
“Sticklers for tradition and status, the older Forsytes prize duty and reputation above all else, whilst the younger members rail against the rigidity of family expectations,” reads the official synopsis, reports Leicestershire Live.

“The question of who will take over the family firm puts Soames Forsyte and his cousin Jolyon in conflict just as their lives are turned upside down by the arrival of two remarkable women.”
It concludes: “Ultimately, each Forsyte family member grapples with the same dilemma – is it better to be ruled by the head or the heart?”
Millie takes on the role of dancer Irene Heron, who captures the affections of Soames (Joshua Orpin). An early glimpse of what seems to be their wedding was unveiled earlier this year.

5 has now unveiled fresh photographs from the forthcoming costume drama, with the former Corrie actress looking completely different from her previous portrayals as Kelly Neelan in the soap and Ruby Sunday in Doctor Who.
Millie has been photographed in character with striking red hair, a dramatic departure from her signature blonde tresses.
She looks radiant in a cream dress adorned with a subtle floral design, while Joshua Orpin cuts a dashing figure in a matching suit and olive waistcoat.
First look photos have also been shared of Stephen Moyer as Jolyon Forsyte Sr., Jack Davenport as James Forsyte, Danny Griffin as Jo Forsyte Jr., Tuppence Middleton as Frances Forsyte and Eleanor Tomlinson as Louisa Byrne.

When the series was first announced, Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor of Drama at 5, said in a statement: “We are excited to give The Forsytes its UK home on 5. This lavish new adaptation is a great addition to our rich portfolio of period dramas.
“With a stellar cast, stunning production, and rich ensemble of characters, it has all the components our audience loves.”
