Coronation Street‘s “nightmare” newcomer Mick Michaelis makes a second enemy next week.
Show bosses have cast Joe Layton in the role of Mick, a new neighbour who’ll be moving into nearby Mawdsley Street.
Corrie viewers saw Mick’s wife Lou make her first appearance in Wednesday’s episode (February 12), as she befriended Gemma Winter-Brown at the Corner Shop and irritated Aadi Alahan by complaining about prices.
Mick is next to arrive in Friday’s episode (February 14), with a twist in store as fans immediately realise that he’s the mystery van man who has been tormenting Gemma’s husband Chesney.
Chesney is oblivious to Mick’s true identity, but Mick seems to be figuring things out when he tells his new neighbour that he recognises him from somewhere.
Mick soon tells Chesney that he remembers him from the local market, where he used to sell dog collars, but has he secretly figured out who Ches is?
Meanwhile, Mick quickly finds himself in a second person’s bad books when George Shuttleworth complains about the loud music blasting from his house.
Volatile Mick reacts badly to George’s complaints, but Chesney steps in to play peacemaker.
Mick finally agrees to turn down his tunes, but Chesney is left very wary over his reaction. Will he live to regret this new friendship?
Speaking recently about the role of Mick, show newcomer Joe commented: “I really enjoy playing what people would refer to as a baddie or a villain, because for me the most interesting thing is all how we move past the first initial judgment of them, especially when you’re going to be playing them.
“It’s really interesting because when you’re playing a character, a part of you has got to love them and empathise with them and understand them.
“I always think, ‘How do I get into this character’s shoes and why is it the way he is and why does he do the things that he does?’
“So I always find it really rewarding and a real kind of privilege to play any character, but especially the psychologically complex characters.”
