We were all shocked to find out back in July that Days of Our Lives had let headwriter Ron Carlivati go after seven years and brought in veteran soap scribes Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford to take his place. Even more shocking, we learned that the change was happening effective immediately!
That, though, was all behind the scenes. Thanks to the Peacock soap’s advanced shooting schedule, it wasn’t clear exactly when we’d see the changes happening on our screens. About all we knew was that it was happening some months away in the spring of 2025. Now, though, the show has released the first airdate of the new material. It’s set to begin Thursday, April 24!We know, for those dying of curiosity about what’s to come and what kind of changes we can expect, that’s still four months away, but at least we finally know when it’s happening. We don’t have a ton of information on what to expect, but we do know the show’s going to be celebrating its 60th anniversary in the coming year. On top of that, Thaao Penghlis (Tony) promised with his return that “DiMera is back,” while Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie) promised that, love it or hate it, Body and Soul will be done. Instead, the ladies said, we’re going to be getting stories of “real people in real situations.”
That’s something the executive producer Ken Corday made absolutely clear at Day of Days. He noted that moving forward, they’re “trying to root the show in much more of an interpersonal reality, with a return to romance and passion more than science fiction.”
So mark your calendars, because on April 24th, the show’s going to begin a whole new era — and it sounds like it’ll be one grounded in the characters and the relationships that we all love! In fact, on that note, we thought we’d whip up a few suggestions of changes that we’d love to see in the months — and years — to come!
