If only Thom Christopher had had more than One Life to Live off screen as well as on. The Daytime Emmy winner, who played Mob boss
Carlo Hesser and occasionally his twin brother Mortimer Bern, passed away on December 5 at the age of 84.
A native of Queens, NY, the actor winner made his soap debut back in the 1970s, when The Edge of Night cast him as Noel Douglas. He’d
later go on to appear on Loving (as Dante Pardou) and Guiding Light (as San Cristobel’s Colonel Dax), but it is for his work on One Life to
Live for which he will always be most vividly remembered. Carlo was as fierce and formidable as Mortimer was meek and mild. One of ’em would just as soon have killed you as looked at you, and the other would’ve fainted at even the thought of violence.
“May Thom fly on the wings of angels to be beside his beloved [late wife] Judith,” tweeted on-screen son Anthony Crivello, who played Johny Dee Hesser, “and may they enjoy each other’s company once again beside the pearly gates of heaven.”
Christopher’s other credits include the movies Wizards of the Lost Kingdom and Deathstalker and the Warriors From Hell and series such as Simon & Simon, T.J. Hooker and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. (He was half-man, half-bird warrior Hawk in Season 2 of the sci-fi romp; check out his amazing costume above!)
