It’s been a year since the tragic passing of Garrison Brown, a family member featured on TLC’s reality show, Sister Wives. In the time since his passing, many of his family members have paid tribute in their own ways.
Garrison’s sister, Maddie Brown, recently opened up about her own unique form of paying homage to her late brother. It turns out that the name of her newest child is a nod to his memory, and the story behind it is beyond touching.
Maddie Named Her Daughter As A Tribute To Garrison
Absolutely worth the wait, Miss Emilia Estelle Brush has finally made her grand entrance! Our sweet girl took her time, keeping us all in suspense, but when she decided it was time—she didn’t waste a second. Born on 3/14, she arrived absolutely perfect. We are completely smitten with our newest little love.
The comment section was flooded with kind messages of congratulations. Some eagle-eyed fans also noticed the name and wondered if the baby’s middle name was meant to be a tribute to Garrison.
One astute observer pointed out that the name “Estelle” might be a reference to one of Garrison’s favorite pastimes:
I love her name, especially Estelle. Is it like a tribute to Garrison since Estelle means Star in Latin
Maddie was quick to confirm that this was the case. “That is exactly what it is,” she wrote in response to the comment. Fans of the show will recall that Garrison was known for his avid love of stargazing. Her brother possessed a deep interest in astronomy, and he often liked to share his love for the stars with his friends and family.
Maddy Has Spoken Out About The Importance Of Mental Health
In the wake of her brother’s death by suicide, Maddy has been outspoken about the importance of mental health. She’s been determined to use her platform to bring awareness to the issue, and she often posts messages on her social media surrounding the cause.
At the time of Garrison’s death, his loss came as quite a shock to the family, as many of them were still regularly in touch with him and didn’t believe that something like that could’ve happened to him.
Just last month, Maddy took it upon herself to write a message underlining the importance of looking after one’s own mental health and the mental health of those around you. Per Us Magazine, she wrote her message on an Instagram story, saying that more awareness needed to be brought to the matter:
Mental health is so important. And I don’t think we talk about it enough. I don’t think we do enough to bring awareness. It wasn’t bullying, it wasn’t a lack of love that Garrison had. It was mental health.
And I am going to continue talking about mental health and self-care until I’m blue in the face because I don’t think it’s talked about enough in a way that people understand it.
Maddy also underscored the dangers of social media, noting that it could give people unrealistic expectations and make them feel like they weren’t living up to their full potential. “The other thing is social media’s not real.
It’s a highlight reel,” she emphasized. “Garrison used to feel like he wasn’t doing enough because he was comparing himself to things on social media, and I don’t think that it’s real and I think we need to remember that,” she added.

The members of Garrison’s family continue to reflect fondly on his memory while the series runs on. The teaser trailer for the second half of Season 19 was just released this past week, and fans of the show can expect to see more of the Browns very shortly. More episodes of the show will resume on April 20th, only on TLC.
