Luke Grimes Will Play Kayce Dutton Of Yellowstone As A U.S. Marshal In New Cbs Series

The expansion of producer Taylor Sheridan’s TV universe continues apace.

CBS announced this week that the procedural drama tentatively titled Y: Marshals, a Yellowstone sequel with Luke Grimes reprising his role as Kayce Dutton, will join the network’s 2025-26 midseason lineup. It’s already been scheduled for the prime timeslot of 9 p.m. ET Sundays — right after what’s currently the highest-rated drama on broadcast television, Tracker.

According the official logline, the new series reintroduces Kayce as a member of “an elite unit of U.S. Marshals.” The late John Dutton’s son will be “combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.”

There’s no word yet as to whether Yellowstone co-stars Kelsey Asbille (who played Monica, Kayce’s wife) and Brecken Merrill (who played their son Tate) will be along for the ride.

Meanwhile, Paramount has reportedly announced to shareholders the tentative dates for Season 2 of Landman, the Texas-set drama starring Billy Bob Thornton, and the premiere season of Dutton Ranch, a Yellowstone spin-off series following the further misadventures of Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser). Both shows are set to start streaming on Paramount+ in November 2025.

It’s worth noting that Sam Elliott, who received a well-deserved Screen Actors Guild Award for his portrayal of Shea Brennan in Sheridan’s 1883, has been added to the cast of Landman for the series’ second season.

Given Sheridan’s propensity for creating cross-generational connections between people throughout his TV universe, wouldn’t it be a hoot if his Landman character somehow turns out to be Shea’s great-great-great grandson? Sure, we know Shea lost his wife and son before the start of the 1883 storyline. But maybe somewhere along the way … ?
