When his mum’s sinister stalker regains consciousness after being brutally assaulted, Coronation Street’s copper Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) takes a big risk to make sure nobody discovers that he was the attacker.
Corrie fans’ jaws hit the floor when it was revealed that unhinged electrician Mal Roper (Tim Treloar) was beaten and left for dead by none other than Kit. The most obvious suspect was Kit’s mother Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove), and she can’t really blame anyone for pointing the finger in her direction.
Mal met Bernie while she was drinking away her grief over Billy Mayhew’s death during a boozy night with the girls. He liked her straight away, and he was not shy about letting her know.
While Bernie refused to cheat on her devoted hubby Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin), she did indulge in some recreational drug taking with her new friend. The next day she woke up with the hangover from hell and a determination to never see Mal again…
… until he turned up on her doorstep. Now the Unstable Cable Guy won’t leave her alone, even landing himself a job sorting out Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson) dodgy wiring just so he has an excuse to stick around. The more intense Mal became, the more freaked out Bernie was by this walking threat to her marriage.
Freaked out, Bernie only sees Mal as a walking threat to her marriage and tried to make him leave, even going so far as to threaten to kill the creep if he didn’t leave her alone. But Mal laughed in her face, vowing that he wasn’t going anywhere
… cut to Mal rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
Just hours prior, Bernie had confiding in Kit that the electrician had been making her life a living hell. Horrified, Kit decided to give Mal a not-so-friendly warning. Although he didn’t overly hurt his mum’s tormentor during the altercation, Mal did suffer a heart attack.
After a grilling down at the police station, Bernie was released and it didn’t take her long to get the truth out of Kit. Despite being outraged, she was ultimately forgiving and announced that she was going on holiday with Dev to Tenerife, urging Kit to keep his nose clean while she is on holiday.
But that might not be an option once Mal wakes up.
In upcoming episodes of Coronation Street, Kit is plunged into panic when he gets word that Mal has regained consciousness.

When Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) quizzes Kit about the attack on Mal Roper, he gives nothing away. But when Lisa reveals a witness has come forward, Kit struggles to mask his unease.
Later, Kit ambushes the witness, Barry, outside the station. Barry recognises him immediately as the man who attacked Mal Roper. Will Barry spill Kit’s secret?
But Kit’s problems only get worse when Lisa reveals that Mal has regained consciousness.
With a bad feeling, Kit visits Mal in hospital and questions him about the attack. Will Mal remember what happened… and will he land Kit in serious trouble?
