Taylor Sheridan, might be extremely popular for his work in television, but he also has an impressive portfolio of movies that he has worked in. Breaking into the mainstream with his screenwriting in Siccario 1 and 2, followed by Hell or High Water, he has also helmed multiple projects such as Wind River and Vile, as far as the big screen is concerned.

Of course, at the same time, Taylor Sheridan has also built a TV empire over at Paramount with the creation of various shows for the network. Yellowstone has become the flagship show for Paramount+ and Sheridan has even created various spinoff shows including 1923 and 1883. The writer/showrunner has brought in an impressive cast filled with huge movie stars and character actors for his shows.

Kevin Costner, Harrison Ford, and Helen Mirren are some of the heavyweights that Sheridan has cast in his shows. Another on-screen legend that was a part of Yellowstone was Dabney Coleman who guest starred as John Dutton’s father. Sheridan paid tribute to the actor who recently passed away at the age of 92.

Taylor Sheridan Remembers Dabney Coleman Following His Recent Passing

Dabney Coleman made a guest appearance in Yellowstone season 2 as John Dutton’s father in 2019. The actor had worked with Taylor Sheridan before in the CBS show The Guardian in 2003 in an episode called Back in the Ring. Coleman recently passed away at the age of 92 and Sheridan paid tribute to the actor in a heartwarming statement.

Speaking to Deadline, Sheridan praised Coleman’s humility, grace, and the kindness Coleman showed to an up-and-coming actor like him. Sheridan learned the power of simplicity as an actor from him and admired how Coleman was patient with him when he asked him several questions about the craft.

When Coleman agreed to be in Yellowstone, Sheridan was incredibly humbled and called his performance on the show a lesson in bravery and emotional honesty. The Yellowstone creator would be forever grateful to Coleman and claimed that he would miss the treasured actor. Sheridan said,

I had the opportunity to work with Dabney in 2003 and learned priceless lessons in the power of simplicity as an artist, but more importantly, I witnessed Dabney’s humility, grace, and patience (with my 10,000 questions).

I never forgot those lessons and was humbled myself when he agreed to appear on Yellowstone. His performance was yet another lesson in bravery and emotional honesty. Dabney Coleman is a treasure. He will be missed and admired, always.

Outside of Yellowstone, Coleman entertained audiences with his performances in hit films such as 9 to 5, Tootsie, and WarGames among others. He was a singular talent that always elevated the material he was given. As Sheridan stated, he was a gem that would be terribly missed and his works will continue to be celebrated.

Taylor Sheridan Feels Matthew McConaughey Is a Natural Fit For Yellowstone Sequel Series

Yellowstone is soon ending with part 2 of season 5 which is expected to premiere sometime this year. It has been announced that a follow-up show called 2024 is in development with Matthew McConaughey possibly starring as the lead. Taylor Sheridan spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about McConaughey’s response to Yellowstone and how he is a natural fit for the follow-up show.

Sheridan stated that he and McConaughey had been talking for many years and had brainstormed many ideas for a collaboration between them. McConaughey resonated with Yellowstone and expressed his desire to be a part of that world to Sheridan. Sheridan then decided to start working on a project for them. The Yellowstone creator said,

He seems like a natural fit. We had a few conversations over the years and spitballed a few ideas. Then he started watching Yellowstone and responded to it. He was like, ‘I want to do that.’ And by ‘that’ he meant diving into a raw world clashing up against the modern world. And then I said, ‘Buddy, that we can do.’

Sheridan is a busy man these days working and developing multiple shows for Paramount+. In addition to finishing Yellowstone, the second season of 1923, Tulsa King and Special Ops: Lioness are in early stages of development. He is also currently shooting a new show called Lawman with Jon Hamm.
