Janelle Brown & Maddie Brush Reflect in Hopes to Relocate Garrison Brown | Sister Wives Spoilers

In a deeply emotional and somber episode of Sister Wives, viewers were taken inside the heartbreaking reflections of Janelle Brown and her daughter Maddie Brush as they looked back on the efforts to bring Garrison Brown closer to their North Carolina home before his untimely death.

During the May 4th episode, Maddie opened up in a confessional segment about the conversations she and her husband, Caleb Brush, had been having with Garrison. Their goal was simple but filled with hope—they wanted Garrison to move out of Flagstaff and join them in North Carolina, hoping the change would give him a fresh start and the support system he needed. Maddie explained that she and Caleb had many conversations with Garrison, and they nearly convinced him to make the move. “We almost had him here,” Maddie said with a heavy heart. Caleb echoed her sentiment, adding, “He was almost coming.”

However, as Maddie painfully admitted, “I think he was just so deep in,” referring to the emotional and mental battles Garrison may have been privately struggling with.

The conversation soon turned somber as it was revealed that Garrison tragically passed away from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on May 5th, 2024. His body was discovered in his Flagstaff apartment, sending shockwaves through the Brown family and fans of the show alike.

Janelle shared how she had to make the heartbreaking call to Maddie, informing her of Garrison’s passing. Maddie later recalled the moment and described how life-altering such a call can be. “There are moments that change your brain chemistry,” she said. “Calling your siblings to tell them one of you has died is one of those moments.”

In the days that followed, Janelle found herself with the enormous task of preparing Garrison’s home to be packed up. She shared this process with her sister, Carrie, during one of the episode’s most emotionally raw scenes. “Now I have the big job of getting his house ready,” Janelle said, her voice full of grief and exhaustion. Carrie, clearly emotional as well, responded, “With closing the house and the kids moving out and selling everything, that kind of closes that chapter.” It was a moment of quiet resignation that showed the heavy burden grief brings to those left behind.

Janelle later opened up about how the grief doesn’t always come in one wave. “Sometimes it catches you in more raw moments,” she admitted. Despite the pain, she said she was thankful to now live in North Carolina, close to Maddie and her growing family. Together, they are working on building Tatada Farms, a sanctuary dedicated to helping people connect and heal through the peace of nature.

As the episode unfolded, Janelle reflected on the signs that something had shifted in her son during the last year of his life. “He was never a drinking kid. He didn’t like the taste,” she revealed. But something changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Garrison began drinking more regularly. “He had other nights like this—he’d drink, pass out, and go silent. But he’d always be back the next morning.”

Despite offering him love, support, and professional help, Janelle admitted, “I don’t know what happened that night.”

The episode served as a stark reminder of the importance of checking in on loved ones, even when they appear to be doing okay. Maddie emphasized that people can hide their pain all too well. “Some people can mask it. Some people can’t. But you just never really know,” she said. She stressed the importance of always validating others’ feelings and making sure family members and loved ones are genuinely okay, especially if there are warning signs or struggles with mental health. Maddie shared a message she hopes others will take seriously: “If someone is struggling, they need someone physically there. Sometimes just your presence makes all the difference.” Her words were a call to action for viewers to be more attentive and compassionate to the emotional needs of those around them.

The episode also included a deeply personal and spiritual moment from the narrator, who acknowledged the heavy weight of such discussions and offered comfort to those who might be triggered by talk of mental illness or suicide. The narrator reminded viewers that while not everyone may lean on faith, there are still resources available for help, including therapy and crisis support. For those who do have spiritual beliefs, they offered reassurance that turning to God in moments of darkness can bring peace and strength.

They continued, “God doesn’t take away your mental illness, but He can help carry the load. I’ve felt that peace come over me after crying out in prayer.”

This episode was not only a reflection of the Browns’ personal grief but also a powerful message to the audience—about recognizing mental health struggles, the importance of being physically and emotionally present, and how faith or professional help can both be part of the healing journey.

Janelle and Maddie’s story, while devastating, is also a testament to a family’s enduring love. Their hope to relocate Garrison was born from a place of wanting to provide him with a stable, loving environment. Though that hope wasn’t realized in time, they continue to honor his memory by speaking openly about his struggles and encouraging others to reach out before it’s too late.
