Kevin Costner recently discussed how he has focused on his children during his divorce from Christine Baumgartner.
In an interview, the Yellowstone star emphasized, “It’s really about the children.”
Reflecting on his four-decade career, Kevin admitted that getting his family life back on track after his split from Christine in May 2023 took some time.
“You just keep talking, keep coaching [the kids], and stay interested in what they’re interested in,” said the 69-year-old, who shares custody of their three youngest children—Cayden, 17, Hayes, 15, and Grace, 14—with Christine.Kevin acknowledged that managing a divorce is particularly challenging when children are involved.
“It was something I had to consider 20 years ago when I decided to remarry,” noted the actor, who also shares three children—Annie, 40, Lily, 37, and Joe, 36—with his ex-wife Cindy Silva.
He added, “Having been divorced once before, I know how tough it is with kids.”
Despite the difficulties, Kevin and Christine were unable to make their relationship last.
He described Christine as “a good partner [and] a good mother,” expressing that he is now grappling with the outcomes of their separation. “That was my fear, and I’m kind of living with that right now. But that’s life,” he reflected.
In the same interview, Kevin also spoke about his dedication to his upcoming film project, Horizon: An American Saga, set to release this summer.
“There were so many moving parts—investments, committed movies, and hundreds of people involved,” he explained. “When you’re in a storm, and you’re the only one at the helm, you can’t let go of the wheel.”
Kevin concluded, “I just haven’t been able to let go of the wheel.”
