Pretty sure Harrison Ford is just as baffled as we are about 1923 season 2’s most absurd storyline. And who could blame him? Zane Davis (Brian Geraghty) just walked off a brutal brain surgery like it was a mild headache, and even the show knows how ridiculous that sounds.
Let’s rewind. At the end of 1923 season 1, Zane was beaten within an inch of his life, and things got so bad that he needed brain surgery. Without anesthesia. (Yeah, let that sink in.) Dr. Miller (Mark Daneri) literally drilled a hole into his skull to stop a brain bleed. That should’ve put Zane out of commission for weeks, yes? Nah.
Within minutes, my guy was up and walking like he just shook off a rough night out. By the end of episode 6, he was back on security duty at the Yellowstone ranch, ready to throw hands like nothing happened.
Even 1923 itself couldn’t ignore how wild that was. In season 2, episode 6, Zane actually says, “A week’s long enough to heal anything.” Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford), likely speaking for every confused fan out there, shoots back: “I can’t think of one thing that can heal in a week.” A self-aware jab at how completely unrealistic Zane’s recovery was? Absolutely. At least somebody in this show has a grip on reality.
What makes it even worse? 1923 already proved it knows how injuries actually work. In season 1, Jacob got shot several times and spent months recovering. Meanwhile, Zane survives a medieval-level medical procedure and is back in action in seven days. The math ain’t mathing, Sheridan.
But this isn’t just a “Zane has Wolverine’s healing factor” issue. It’s a symptom of 1923 season 2’s pacing problem. Some plotlines (cough, Spencer’s endless detour cough) are dragged out to infinity, while others get fast-forwarded like Sheridan’s trying to speedrun his own show. If he’d just let the story breathe, maybe Zane’s recovery wouldn’t feel like a deleted scene from a superhero flick.
At this point, I’m just hoping 1923 sticks the landing. Because if the finale pulls another stunt like this? I might need brain surgery just to make sense of it.
