Gail Loman’s (Rachael Gill-Davis) exit was confirmed months ago as part of the Emmerdale cast shake up, but now the sad circumstances of how she’ll leave have been revealed.
While her character won’t be killed off, leaving it open for a return, there will be the death of something – her relationship.
Gail came to the village full time in 2023, and it quickly became clear that she and Ryan (James Moore) had previously been in a relationship.
They struck up a romance once again, and not long after it transpired that the pair had had a son together but had given him up for adoption.
Oscar then came back into their lives needing a bone marrow transplant from his parents. This tested the couple as they didn’t have the same attitudes to how to help their son.
There have been theories that Gail’s exit might revolve around Oscar’s return – perhaps he’s lost his mum and is in need of his birth parents. However, it’s more tragic than that.
Ryan is utterly floored when Gail tells him she thinks they’re not in love anymore and she’s ready to move on. It’s come out of left field for the poor pub owner.

Ryan is gutted and does everything he can to get her not to leave, even begging his girlfriend to reconsider.
But Gail is torn, if the love is gone, she thinks there’s no getting it back.
