Coronation Street bosses are teasing a new development for Carla Connor and Lisa Swain’s relationship in the wake of Craig Tinker’s tragic death.

The popular couple reflect on their future in the coming days as the Weatherfield community goes into mourning for Craig.

Friday’s episode (23 May) explores the immediate aftermath of Craig’s passing as news spreads around the Street.

Lisa is among those who are particularly affected by the loss of Craig, after working closely with him at the local police station over the years.

Reflecting on the horrors of the day, Lisa tells Carla that it’s more important than ever to grab happiness where they can.

Lisa has an idea (which we can’t give away yet), but in follow-on scenes next week, a curious Carla quizzes her. She’s keen to know whether Lisa really meant what she said about their future or got caught up in the heat of the moment.

What will Lisa’s response be?

Craig’s exit aired in Wednesday’s episode as Colson Smith bowed out from the role after 14 years.

Speaking afterwards, Colson told us: “In a really weird way, it was the right thing for Craig to be killed. I didn’t want that possibility of ‘We might have you back’ – knowing that it would be very unlikely, and knowing that it would feel a bit like unfinished business.

“Craig dying in the line of duty as a copper, and getting that hero’s death, was by far the most perfect story for his exit. I’ve got everything that I’ve got from Coronation Street and that’s it now, because I know there’s no return for Craig in the future.”
