Coronation Street fans have had their return hopes dashed as they were given an update on Lisa Swain and Carla Connor’s upcoming wedding.

Fans know that there was a point not too long ago that it didn’t seem like wedding bells would be ringing for the pair after their engagement bubble was popped back in September by the arrival of Lisa’s ex-wife, Becky Swain.

The couple, dubbed ‘Swarla’, had a turblent start to their relatonship, things started to look up when Lisa popped the question and the couple moved into their first home, No.6 Coronation Street, but that was until Becky arrived, four years after she was believed to have been killed in the line of duty.

Despite Becky’s almost-successful attempts at pulling the couple apart, and convincing Lisa and their daughter, Betsy Swain, to leave the country with her, the villain was stopped in her tracks, thanks to Carla teaming up with Lisa’s colleague, DC Kit Green, before she was kidnapped by Becky.

After Becky’s downfall, which has seen her sentenced to 12 years in prison, Lisa was keen to reunite with Carla. While the Underworld factory boss was initially hesistent to forgive, she couldn’t stay away from the love of her life for long.

Following their reunion, Carla has since surprised Lisa, by booking their wedding date, April 23 to be exact, at the Chariot Square Hotel, and while it appears their upcoming nuptials will be plain sailing for the two women after quite a dramatic few months for their relationship, their ‘beautiful’ wedding day will end with a shock for poor Betsy as Lisa’s daughter discovers one of her neighbours dead on the cobbles.

Filming for the big day took place this week, with This Morning’s ‘Queen of Soaps’ Sharon Marshall on set and she shared an update on the highly-anticipated marriage between Carla and Lisa live on the ITV daytime show.

And there happened to be a bit of coincidence as on the day filming took place, on Wednesday (February 25), former Corrie star Kym Marsh had to take time away from performing her her stage show, Single White Female, due to sickness.

It didn’t take fans who want to see Michelle Connor’s return after seven years away to reunite with Carla long to go wild for the possibilty that Kym could have been heading back to Weatherfield.

Resharing Kym’s post thanking her understudy Anna Ruben as she had to step into her role as Hedra in the touring production, @caarchelle said on X (formerly Twitter): “DOES THIS MEAN WHAT I THINK IT MEANS? tell me i’m not being delusional!!!!! MICHELLE AT SWARLA’S WEDDING???? a bit of a coincidence to be off sick on that day specifically!!!”

@deirdrescig replied: “This is the first time i’ve seen something that’s made me genuinely pause and think there’s a chance.” @CatherineRose02 commented: “If Michelle is at that wedding I’ll never say another bad thing about any Corrie storylines for the rest of my life! This would even make me forgive Becky Swain.” @AlisonSelw60139 added: “This would be absolutely fab if Kym Marsh is there. Love to see Michelle again.”

However, they’ve since had their hopes dashed as the Metro confirmed that Kym’s return as Michelle, following her previous 13-year stint on the cobbles, wouldn’t be happening, at least for now.
