Charlie Condou Open to RETURN to Corrie – 10 Years After Exit! | Coronation Street Spoilers
A beloved face from Coronation Street’s past could soon be gracing the cobbles once more, as actor Charlie Condou has revealed he is open to returning to the long-running ITV soap — over a decade after his last appearance. Best known to fans for his portrayal of Marcus Dent, Condou’s recent comments have ignited fresh hope among Corrie viewers who’d love to see Marcus back in Weatherfield.
In a new interview with RadioTimes.com, Condou candidly discussed the possibility of stepping back into Marcus’s shoes. “I would never say never,” he said, clearly fond of his time on the show. “On a series like Coronation Street, even after leaving, you always feel like part of the family. I think I was there for about five years or so, and it definitely stays with you.”
Fans of the show will recall Marcus Dent as a warm-hearted and complex character who found himself in a variety of romantic entanglements, including a well-known relationship with Sean Tully that captured the audience’s attention. Their relationship had its ups and downs and was rekindled before ultimately falling apart. Marcus later moved on to Maria, and then Todd Grimshaw, only for his time in Weatherfield to end on a bittersweet note. After discovering Todd kissing another man, Marcus made the difficult decision to leave for London in 2014 — a moment that marked his exit from the show.
But while Marcus may have left the street, the door for his return was never fully closed. “When I left, the producers made it clear they weren’t killing me off. They wanted to keep that door open,” Condou recalled. “And I think it was because Marcus was a well-liked character.” Indeed, fans often mention how missed Marcus is, especially since his storyline had so much emotional weight and resonance.
As for why he left in the first place, Condou explained that it came down to personal reasons. “It just wasn’t working for my life at the time,” he admitted. “My family and young children were based in London, and I felt like it was the right time to try something new.” Despite having never planned to stay long-term, Condou reflected positively on his time at Corrie and acknowledged the strong bond among cast and crew. “It really is like a family there — many people stay for years, and that atmosphere makes it a special place to work.”
Now, with his children grown and his schedule opening up, the idea of returning no longer feels out of reach. “My kids are older now, and if there was a reason to bring Marcus back, yeah — sure, why not?” he added. That kind of openness is sure to spark conversations among fans and soap bosses alike. After all, with Coronation Street known for weaving in returns of iconic characters, Marcus’s reappearance wouldn’t feel out of place — in fact, it might just be what the show needs to inject fresh drama and revisit old storylines with new depth.
In the meantime, Condou hasn’t exactly been idle. He’s set to appear in the much-anticipated upcoming episode of Doctor Who, titled The Interstellar Song Contest — a crossover inspired by the famed Eurovision competition. Details of Condou’s character are still being kept under wraps, but the episode’s synopsis teases some intergalactic excitement. “The Doctor’s quest to return Belinda home to Earth leads them to a space station hosting a famous song contest,” it reads. “What starts as a fun night quickly spirals into a battle for survival.”
Starring alongside Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu, Condou is joining a show just as iconic as Corrie — though many fans will no doubt still associate him with the heartfelt and often dramatic journey of Marcus Dent.
Marcus’s legacy in Coronation Street is undeniable. From his groundbreaking romance with Sean, to his later entanglements with Maria and Todd, he brought visibility and heart to the screen. His exit in 2014 left viewers with mixed emotions, especially after the character chose to walk away rather than endure more heartbreak. Given how his story ended — not with death or tragedy, but simply with a change in direction — the possibility of a return now feels more plausible than ever.
So, could Weatherfield soon welcome Marcus Dent back to its iconic cobbles? With Charlie Condou expressing genuine interest and the show’s long history of welcoming back past characters, fans may not have to wait too long to see familiar faces once again. As Condou himself said — never say never.
Stay tuned, Corrie fans. The cobbles might just be calling Marcus home
