Stunning news if you’re a fan of Mary Goskirk, as Emmerdale’s Louise Jameson has confirmed she isn’t leaving the ITV soap anytime soon.
Mary was introduced to us in 2022. She is Rhona Goskirk’s (Zoe Henry) mum, and lives with her daughter’s family at Smithy Cottage.
Shortly after Mary’s arrival, she was involved in a storyline that saw her come out as a lesbian. This was initially hard for Rhona to get her head around, as she wondered whether the relationship Mary had with her dad was a lie.
After reconnecting with Rhona, Mary ventured into the world of dating apps. She matched with a woman called Faye, but this ended in utter heartbreak as Mary discovered she was actually a con woman, and only interested in her money.
Last year, Mary suffered great loss when Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough) died in the limo crash. Viewers sensed that the two characters had romantic chemistry, but the details of their relationship didn’t get revealed until after Suzy’s death.

We learnt that Suzy was planning on leaving Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), and had also kissed Mary. Hopes of a relationship were ripped from Mary though, as Suzy died as the limo disaster took place.
Mary is fiercely protective of her family in the village. She also works as a chef alongside Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) in the pub, and is close friends with Kim Tate (Claire King).
She’s only been there a few years, but star Louise Jameson adores working in the Yorkshire Dales. Recently, she opened up about how she thinks the job is a ‘gift from the universe’, and also revealed her work commute is definitely a lot longer than you think!
‘I’ve just signed for another year’, she said with a smile.

‘I’m really thrilled. It’s so corny to say this, but I feel like it’s some sort of gift from the universe to me. That’s because I’m not in every day, I have a regular wage, it’s high profile, the company is extraordinary, Zoe Henry who plays daughter is such a joy to be around, it couldn’t be better.’
Adding to her chat with the Mirror, Louise shared that she actually drives from Kent to Yorkshire when she films as Mary.
‘The only downside is that it’s a five-hour commute, I have to drive up from Kent, but that’s a small price to pay for such a wonderful job – I spend half time out on the Yorkshire moors!
