General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Chris McKenna (Jack Brennan) recently spoke out about his recurring status and Brennan’s dropped Australian accent. When McKenna took over for Charles Mesure with his February debut, viewers were definitely taken aback by the sudden change.

McKenna obviously has a very different look and vibe compared to Mesure, so getting used to his version has been an adjustment.

Of course, McKenna’s lack of an Australian accent was perhaps the most startling change of all!

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Chris McKenna has been offering up behind-the-scenes info and answering GH fans’ burning questions.

It turns out McKenna actually had some conversations with the powers that be about whether he should fake the Australian accent since he can do one.

McKenna pulled off an Aussie accent in a previous role, so it seems he was open to doing it for Brennan.

“Fun fact- I do all kinds of accents (check out my audiobooks/podcast) including Aussie (State of Affairs ep 6).

When I was cast there was discussion about using an accent but ultimately TPTB decided to let me be me,” McKenna admitted in his post.

McKenna gets that it was a big change for viewers to get used to, but he feels like the right call was ultimately made.

“Tho understandably jarring to the audience, it was the right choice. Forgive me, it’ll be worth it,” McKenna assured any fans who might still be doubting him.

We have to give McKenna praise for all his recent scenes with Laura Wright (Carly Spencer) – from Brennan and Carly’s passionate encounter to the tender moments by her hospital bedside after the poisoning crisis.

It feels like McKenna is finding his groove as Brennan and developing stronger on-screen chemistry with Carly, so that’s nice to see!

McKenna is also doing an excellent job with all the WSB drama – and we bought his more sinister version of Brennan as he went up against Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart), too.

Since McKenna is making the role his own, many fans have been asking questions about his status with the show.

When asked if he was on contract or recurring, McKenna confirmed that it’s just a recurring gig – at least so far.
