No one saw Dex’s death coming on General Hospital. Not us, not the fans and not even the actors! Evan Hofer said that himself when he spoke with us about his surprise
exit — though he admitted to being more curious about the how than reflecting on the why. And now Eden McCoy admits that her jaw was just about on the floor when she
found out what was happening.
While Evan Hofer was a shock and has been a sad blow, McCoy tells Soap Opera Digest that she hasn’t been worried about Josslyn because of it. Because along with learning Dex would be dying, she found out what was ahead for her character.
“It was kind of a silver lining,” she admitted, “because I could see where we’re going with this.” What’s ahead for her, “is going to be really tough and challenging, but also super-cool and important and a story I will love doing.”
But what is ahead for Josslyn? This week, we’re sure, is all about mourning. Today Trina, who’s also faced tragedy in her love life, is going to be there for her roommate and bestie. But it might be Josslyn’s talk with Jason this past Monday that gives us our greatest hint.
Because, as she told Jason, she needs answers. That’s something that she and Anna share, and it’s the reason both women turned to Jason. The problem is, those answers aren’t going to come without their share of danger.
At this point, it’s clear that Dex’s death is part of a murderous pattern. We’ve certainly got our suspicions about who’s behind it (Cyrus), but time will tell on that account. Josslyn, though, won’t be able to get answers on her own, and if Anna and the cops aren’t getting anywhere, that could mean her turning down darker paths.
We know she trusts Jason, but so far, she’s balked at the mafia side of things — especially after what Sonny did to Dex! But as we saw, Sonny, too, wants to find out who killed Dex. And he wants to help out however he can.
And that could be the opening to pull Josslyn into the mob life for love, much as her mother was. Carly took over Sonny’s operations when she thought he was dead, and while we don’t see Josslyn doing the same (and, let’s face it, there’s no reason or chance for her to), Dex’s death could push her into the world she’s tried to turn her back on.
In the end, it may come down to how much she ends up wanting revenge for what happened, especially if Cyrus truly is involved. She’ll need powerful help to go after him, and Sonny’s faced off with the villain before. McCoy says that what’s coming down the pike for Josslyn will be tough, and walking the line with Jason and Sonny could be a challenge not just for Joss, but her portrayer as well.
One wrong move and she could plunge over the edge and be lost to the darkness forever.
