When Chad Duell dropped the bombshell announcement that he had chosen to leave General Hospital where he has been playing Michael since 2010, fans were stunned. But given that his character of Michael is currently embroiled in some juicy frontburner storylines, many wondered if the soap would be recasting the role again. After a series of child actors, Carly and A.J.’s son was aged up a bit when Dylan Cash took over in 2002. When Michael became a teenager in 2009, GH recast the role with Drew Garrett. Then, in 2010, Duell took over and Michael grew into an adult. However, on a couple of occasions in 2022 and more recently in Oct. 2024, The Young & The Restless alum Robert Adamson (ex-Noah) filled in when Duell wasn’t available. However, another recast is not currently in the cards.
“I am sad to confirm the news of Chad Duell’s forthcoming exit from General Hospital,” executive producer Frank Valentini posted to Twitter/X. “I have loved working with Chad over the years and wish him nothing but the best. He is a terrific actor and will be missed by everyone at GH.
“There are no plans to recast his role at this time,” he added, “but you never know in daytime. I can promise a great story for Michael and his family when Chad exits in the new year.”
Michael is currently reeling from discovering that his wife, Willow, has not only been kissing Drew, but also slept with him. In his heartbreak, Michael then slept with Sasha, who now suspects she could be pregnant! So there’s quite a bit to wrap up before the character is written off the canvas. And if Michael splits up with Willow, will he take their kids with him when he leaves town?
There’s plenty of drama to come as Duell winds up his 14-year run on GH, so stay tuned!
