Days of Our Lives’ Carson Boatman opened up about exploring Johnny’s fractured bond with EJ.

The time has finally arrived whenEJ’s shooter will finally be revealed this week on Days of Our Lives. Johnny and Chanel, as well as several others, have been through the ringer on the witness stand. Before that, the young DiMera was horrified to learn the details of his conception, which threw him for a loop. Now, as he fights for his freedom, Johnny’s portrayer, Carson Boatman, opens up about tackling the dramatic challenges Johnny’s been facing.

He Pushes Himself

Boatman had the chance to speak with Woman’s World and explained how he embraces the work he loves. “I love when you have heavy weeks of a bunch of episodes, because it’s fun to come in and challenge yourself and see everybody.” He continued by praising his coworkers with, “I love everybody here. I’m just so thankful.”

Although the reveal of what EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) did to Sami (Alison Sweeney) was shocking, not entertaining, Boatman explained how he dove headfirst into the story. “As an actor, you want to get your hands on something like that, and really go there,” he said, adding that he likes to push himself and feel the emotions to “try to create beautiful scenes.”

Johnny and Chanel Are Endgame

EJ continues to be his own worst enemy because of the bad choices he makes, including trying to frame Johnny’s wife, Chanel (Raven Bowens), for shooting him. Those choices often push Johnny away. But Boatman felt that while their relationship can be crazy and uncomfortable, he likes to explore the father/son dynamic. “Deep down, you always want that relationship and connection—even if you hate him and can’t forgive him for all the despicable things he’s done,” he remarked.

Boatman loves working with Bowens and is always happy when they have scenes together. He stated that they are very comfortable as scene partners. He also loves the fact that the audience has embraced them as a power couple, revealing that their relationship, “feels like they’re endgame to me… but that can change in about 15 seconds! All it takes is one script.”
